3 Reasons Why Today’s Originator Must Blog or go Extint!

August 12, 2008 by coach

Blogging is becoming very popular among the real estate and lending communities, but many originators wonder why they should blog. We are going to cover a lot of ground on this topic, but in the meantime let’s start with the basic question : Why Today’s Originator Must Blog?

  1. Blogging is the new way of reaching new clients. Think about this, Paul Dunn has set up several blogs on very specific topics: FHA, Rural Housing, etc. Buyers care about what is in it for them and to be able to pull up very specific information on a topic from their bunny slippers at night gives them a very good reason to reach out to you!
  2. Blogging is a great way of creating credibility. I asked my loan officers yesterday, how it would affect their business if they had a published article in the newspaper every week about mortgage lending. They all agreed it would really boost their business. Why? Because it builds credibility and that leads to influence. Blogging is very similar. There is a tremendous amount of trust people have for information they get off of a blog. They view the writer as an expert and credible authority.
  3. Blogging will lead people back to your website. By placing links in your blog, you can direct people to apply for a loan or contact you directly. Search engine optimization is an ever evolving business, but one thing I do know is the more I am out there, the better my chances to be found.

These are just 3 of the many reasons today’s originator needs to be blogging! We will be covering this topic more and more so be sure you subscribe to our feed! It’s free and you need the information!

    Tim,

You are right on with this. I need to get on the front burner with this. I’ve concentrated so much on video and some of my campaigns lately. This needs to be included in all the top LO’s business plans by far.

I have a suggestion for one of your coaching shows - how to create a blog like this. Showing us LO’s how to do this could make you millions and us too!

    Thanks for sharing this,

    Jonas

Jonas - Tim is undoubtedly the man and this subject is DEAR to my heart. Stay tuned because I have a very sneaky suspicion that this will become a highly detailed content section of the site and I am excited for the things to come…

    Cheers,
    Paul Dunn

Tim, great example in point number 2. To take it a step further, a blog has a much longer life span than a newspaper.

Once a blog earns authority in the search engines, you can actually get a specific message in front of your target audience at the exact moment they are looking for information.

How do we start the blog with the end in mind in order to maximize its long term effectiveness?

Nothing last forever, at least in it’s original form, but being on the front end allows the originator to build credibility.

Great stuff. I was just commenting on this the other day. It seems many originators have been late adopters to this technology. Yet, blogging and web 2.0 in general is where the customers are “hiding.” The perfect solution to a “down” market.
